Good start, albeit a tad slower than I'm used to from Karen Kay. But it's not a bad thing either, as it whets the appetite for what's next.
Only thing I'd like to point out to Karen is to please leave bigger spaces between paragraphs where you switch scenes. It's disconcerting to go from James/Jocelyn to Mimi/Tom unexpectedly all the time...
