Here, the writing style is, as opposed to some of Dorothy Strangelove's other works, lush and spacious. Velvet and lace and brocante. Vivid, broad strokes of nicely phrased descriptions, like the sweep of the plumed hat from a courteous French musketeer making a bow.
You're immediately there also, in 1910, transported through the excellent descriptions mentioned earlier. Well drawn characters too. You feel for the protagonists. Hope for toby, while keeping a keen eye on those peppermints. Root for Emily in her fight against Constance, going "pheww" at the outcome.
Visions of "The Age Of Innocence", of "The Others" also. Of Jane Austen.
Quality writing.
Sex scenes were handled with extreme delicacy, tasteful, avoiding crudeness to not curse with the rest of the story.
Not a story that makes you pull your hair in excrutiating tension, or makes you rock yer chair in amazement, no. But a story that leaves a satisfied, warm glow, when finished.
Great read!

Thank you for such an appreciative review, yes, with this story I very much wanted to capture the feel of the times and to transport the reader, also I wanted to show the reader this world very much through the same eyes as the young virgin bride, and to allow the plot to unfold slowly, and make this a good old fashioned mystery with a splash of darkness but not too much because I didn't want to spoil the overall feel of the piece. Again, this is a story that was once a full length novel, it began its life as a love story with a little bit of mystery, it was almost considered for publication as such then the publisher decided they did not want to gamble on an unknown author, so I took it apart, kept the bits I wanted, added more that I felt it needed and it didn't become a book but it did become this story and I think it breathes as a piece all the better for becoming this story, I'm glad you liked the way it was written, this was a story that flowed for me when I was writing and re writing and I may well write another like this one day.
Thank you once again for such an indepth and appreciative review.

Enjoyable story - not hardcore, but very readable (9/10)

Thank you for such a nice review! I'm glad you found it enjoyable, I feel that graphic hardcore has its place when the plot demands it but I prefer to think of the plot and what is appropriate for the characters and the setting before I decide on the direction of the erotica. Thanks for a great rating as well!

Fairly vanilla, but a pretty story, mostly well-told. In the movies, this would be rated R at worst. A tale of love. (7/10)

Thank you for your review, I had an idea when I wrote this to make it reflect the moods and the colours and the feel of the time period and because I wanted to emphasise on the love element, I felt that too much graphic description would spoil the balance.
